The C4 explosive is an important piece of equipment in Counter-Strike 2, often determining whether a team wins or loses a round. The CS.MONEY blog tells you everything you need to know about C4 in CS2, from how it works to unique tactics and strategies.
CS2 doesn’t have a skin for C4 (yet), but we do have keychains and charms that can be equipped with it! Visit CS.MONEY now and buy amulets for your C4 now!
How Does C4 Work in CS2?
C4 explosives are items available exclusively to Attack parties in:
- Relax Mode
- Competitive Mode
- Main Mode
At the start of each round, the game randomly assigns one C4 packet to one of the Attackers. Once assigned, players can drop the C4 on the ground or pass it to a teammate. If the player remains inactive for too long, the game automatically drops C4.
To win the round, the attacking team must eliminate all opponents or detonate C4 at one of the bomb sites. Each map has two factory locations where C4 can be armed. To plant it, players must reach the designated zone, hold C4, and press the fire (or E) button. During the cultivation process, players cannot change weapons or perform other actions, nor can they move. Players crouch and remain in place until planting is complete or stopped, taking only 3 seconds.
Once planted, the timer starts. In Casual mode, this timer is set to 45 seconds, while in Competitive and Premier modes, this timer is set to 40 seconds. During this time, the defending team must tame C4. Defuse takes 10 seconds, or 5 seconds if the player has a defuse kit. Once C4 is defused, the defending player automatically wins the round regardless of the attacker’s survival count.
If C4 is not defused in time, it will explode, causing massive damage to nearby players. The blast radius decreases as distance increases, but avoiding it completely is a challenge. The C4 explosion guaranteed victory for the attackers.
Main Characteristics of C4 in CS2
C4 in CS2 has unique characteristics. Firstly, carrying it does not reduce movement speed, allowing the player to move as fast as while holding the knife. Additionally, C4 is always visible on the Attacker’s minimap via a special icon. Defenders also see this icon, but only when the C4 carrier is in their line of sight.
Only Attackers can pick up C4, and C4 cannot be moved once it falls to the ground, even with explosions or gunfire. However, this can be boosted slightly by interacting with objects, such as the soccer ball in Dust 2, although this is more of a bug than an intentional thing.
When dropped, the C4 flashes with an LED for easier recognition. After planting, it continues to flash and emit different beeping sounds at each location. The C4 planted at Site B, for example, produces a low-pitched sound. These audio cues are subtle but become easier to recognize with experience.
C4 Tactics and Tricks
There’s a little trick involving C4. When planting and taming, C4 triggers a sound while stopping either action does not produce any sound. Players can use this to their advantage, for example by faking plants or performing a defuse to lure opponents out of hiding.
And also, you can hang talismans on C4, as was recently added to the game! So if you want to decorate your C4, you can do it in a certain way. You can buy talismans at low prices at CS.MONEY!
Mastering the use of C4 is essential to success in Counter-Strike 2. Successfully farming C4 will give the attacking team more money, even if they lose the round. Additionally, once planted, the chances of winning the round increase significantly. Defenders can also utilize C4 strategically—by controlling it, they can force attackers to come to them, thus simplifying their path to victory.
