‘Thalapathy’ Vijay fans were in for a huge shock today, as the makers of ‘Leo’ announced that the audio launch scheduled for September 30 stands cancelled.
The makers of the film, Seven Screen Studio, had scheduled the audio release at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. However, on Wednesday, in a message on X, formerly Twitter, they announced that the audio launch has been cancelled due to unprecedented demand for tickets.
“Considering the overflowing passes requests and safety constraints we have decided not to conduct the Leo audio launch,” Seven Screen Studios said. They also added that they will keep the fans updated. “As many would imagine this is not due to political pressure or any other reasons.”
Jagadish Palanisamy, one of the producers and Vijay’s manager, said on X: “It is a very hard decision and we feel the same level of disappointment as each one of the fans will go through. Despite working out various options and tremendous effort we had to take this tough call, considering the extreme overflow in ticket demand and prioritising the safety of the guests.”
Sources say that the audio launch was first planned to be held in Malaysia. But the venue was not available for five days as the makers wanted. Later, the team decided to have it at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. But the huge demand for tickets and passes may have reminded them of the recent A.R. Rehman event in Chennai which had ended in chaos.
With Vijay indicating his entry into politics and his speeches laced with a ‘kutti’ story at every audio launch event, the anticipation for ‘Leo’ audio launch had shot up.
Soon after the announcement, #WeStandWithLeo started trending on X, with Vijay fans accusing the ruling DMK for being the reason behind the cancellation.
